Westminster exploded fireworks, and Yousef Mefleh led the pledge of allegiance at Friday night’s July 4 week gathering at Owens Stadium behind the middle school.  Mefleh, city councilman and restaurateur, says he was honored that organizers chose him to lead the pledge which officially started the event.

Charges have been filed by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office against a Salem man. Wednesday’s Oconee jail report lists three charges against Mark Monroe Crowe including the offense of abuse or neglect of adult resulting in death. A fire engine and crew from Oconee County are lending assistance in fighting a major out of county fire.  Charlie King, Oconee fire chief, says the Oconee resources were sent last evening for a 24-hour assignment at the plastic recycling plant fire in Cherokee County.  The Oconee assistance is part of the South Carolina Firefighter Mobilization Plan.
