Midnight home fire in Walhalla

A nearby lightning strike is believed by the Walhalla Fire Department to have been the direct cause for a midnight hour home fire on E. Wesley Street. The police called the fire department and alerted the two occupants of the home to vacate. Those two people escaped without injury. Fire Chief Brandon Burton says two other people lived at the home, but were away at the time. The fire burned a part of the attic space. There’s water damage to part of the home. Fire fighters came from near and far to help the Walhalla department. In all, the effort required 40 minutes to stop the fire. Burton says while engaged in those firefighting efforts, some of the fire fighters were released to respond to another fire—this one in Westminster.
