A retired Oconee deputy sheriff was the fatal victim this week in a motorcycle accident in western North Carolina. Wayne Smith was 76 years old and a lover of riding motorcycles. A memorial service is planned 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Davenport Funeral Home. Honorary escorts will include deputy sheriffs, the Marine Corps League, and the Patriot Guard Riders.

Everyone is invited to an event tomorrow in Easley that’ll benefit Special Olympics South Carolina.  The highway patrol is involved in staging “Show at the Point” that’ll feature food, music, and door prizes from 10 to 2 at the 5 Point Church, 1039 Pendleton Street, Easley.  Tickets are $20 dollars.  All proceeds go to Special Olympics South Carolina.

Fire fighters quickly stopped a fire that caused minor damage to the outside of a home this afternoon at 261 W. Main Street in Salem.  Capt. Brady Norris of Emergency Services says five people–two adults and three children–are temporarily displaced, but they have found living arrangements this evening with other family members.
