Wrongful death claim placed against ambulance service

An Anderson-based ambulance service, Medshore, was named the defendant this week in a wrongful death action filed this in the Pickens County Common Pleas Court.  The case is brought for Oconee County resident Charles Perry Jr, personal representative of the estate of Charles A. Perry Sr.  Perry Sr. is identified as the 94-year old retired pharmacist and owner of Clemson Drug Company, who died August 24, 2022.  Prior to that date, according to the lawsuit, Perry Sr. was being transported by a Medshore ambulance on a two-mile trip from a Patrick Square senior living facility to the skilled nursing facilities of Clemson Downs.  The lawsuit alleges “a woefully unprepared and unqualified (ambulance) driver” slammed on the brakes that “caused the inadequately secured and restrained Decedent (Perry Sr.) to be ejected from his wheelchair and thrown about inside the back of the van.”  It alleges Perry Sr. fell sideways striking his head on the side door in the back of the van.  The suit claims that as a “direct and proximate result of the injuries sustained” Perry Sr. died four days later.
