WORKERS MEMORIAL CEREMONY TO HONOR FALLEN SCDOT WORKERS

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Transportation will hold its annual Workers Memorial ceremony on Friday, April 26, to honor the men and women who have given their lives in service to SCDOT and the state of South Carolina.

The SCDOT Workers Memorial ceremony will take place at SCDOT Headquarters (955 Park Street, Columbia) at 10 a.m.

Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell and other SCDOT officials are scheduled to speak. The ceremony honors SCDOT employees, dating back to the 1920s, killed while working on the highways as well as those who died on the job from natural causes.

This year’s ceremony will add the name of SCDOT Aiken Maintenance employee Wayne Wilson, who passed away while performing his duties on August 30, 2023.

The ceremony will be streamed online at scdot.org, and on the SCDOT Facebook page, facebook.com/SCDOT.
