Work starts to convert S. Catherine section to one-way

Work gets underway tomorrow to turn a one-block section of Walhalla’s S. Catherine Street into one-way only.  It’s that part of S. Catherine between Main Street and S. Broad.  Celia Myers, city administrator, predicts the project, with its October 5 completion date, will be done in time for two October events:  the Merchant’s Market and the Oktoberfest.  While the work is underway, look for barricades at S. Catherine and E. Main and S. Catherine and ES Broad.  At the finish, the traffic is to flow one-way only – allowing southbound movement from E. Main and ES Broad only.  In 2020, the city studied changing the S. Catherine traffic pattern from a tight two lanes to one.  Following a public comment period, the city chose Option 2 – southbound traffic with parallel parking.  A year later the state DOT approved, and the project was awarded in April this year.
