Within the warrants bureau, there’s no “Sgt. Baxter”

If you get a call from someone claiming to be Sgt. Baxter, Oconee Sheriff’s Office would like you to know there’s no one by that name who works for the warrant bureau of the sheriff’s office.  Some Oconeeans have reported they’ve been called by such a scammer.  The calls center on arrest warrants, and the caller wants money to have the charges dropped.  By this afternoon, no one has known to have been successfully duped.  Master Deputy Jimmy Watt says, “Law enforcement will not contact you and request money in order to have an arrest warrant, or any charges, dropped.”
