Winning incumbent candidate makes statement

Sarai Melendez looks forward to a second, 4-year term on Walhalla City Council.  She issued the following statement this morning:

“I am deeply humbled and honored by the trust the voters of Walhalla have placed and the consideration  to serve a second term. This success is not mine alone; it belongs to all of us who believe in planning and collaborating for a proactive, thoughtful, and judicious present and future. This victory is a testament to our very own republic. “A republic, if you can keep it,” as Benjamin Franklin once said. It serves as a reminder that the responsibility for the preservation of a republic lies with the citizens themselves. WE the people need to protect fundamental principles, support democratic values, and engage actively in the democratic system. Thank you for all participating on your civic duty.

I want to thank our dedicated campaign team and contributors. Our volunteers who knocked on doors, supported us with digital marketing, made phone calls, and tirelessly worked day and night. Your unwavering commitment made this possible.

I also want to acknowledge my opponents. It takes courage and effort, faith and passion, and a willingness to commit. In the spirit of unity, I extend my hand for cooperation and collaboration to address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Our work will continue in Walhalla as we work to build and rebuild a resilient Walhalla community. We will continue to listen to you, Walhalla; your concerns and aspirations will guide our actions in the days, months, and years ahead.

Thank you for your trust and ongoing support.

I look forward to working with the current and new members who have been elected to our council-form of government.

God bless you all!

Kind regards,

Sarai”
