Where a junkyard law stands with the planning commission

At times this week, votes toward an Oconee County law regulating junk were mired in confusion and disagreement.  In the end, however, a subcommittee of planning commissioners apparently may continue their work on the idea whether to recommend–or not to recommend–a junk or junkyard ordinance for adoption by the county council.  After hearing the summary of a subcommittee meeting report, the full commission took two votes on Monday night.  Mike Smith’s motion requested the commission against sending a letter to the council, until the subcommittee finishes it work.  But the vote failed 3-3.  Then the chairman, Frankie Pearson, moved to send the council a letter asking whether, in fact, a junkyard law was something that the county fathers wish the planning commission to spend time on.  But Pearson’s motion garnered one supporter, and that vote failed 2 in favor, 4 opposed.  Unclear, also, Monday, in the minds of some commissioners was exactly how to define a junkyard.
