What’s it all about — South Carolina “A-COG”

The office of the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments in Greenville offers multiple services to local governments, including economic development assistance.  That’s just one “A-COG” service available to Oconee’s five municipalities, as explained last night by Seneca Councilman Dana Moore.  He spoke during a meeting at his city”s water treatment plant on Lake Keowee.  The meeting attracted elected officials from all five Oconee County towns and cities.  The origin for “A-COG” across Upstate South Carolina derives from President Johnson’s Great Society program in the mid 1960s.  It has grown to other services including help for seniors and training for local government officials.  Moore says “A-COG” activities will be further explained by its executive director, Steve Pelliesier, during an upcoming report to an Oconee County Council meeting.
