What Chairman Durham says about “step and scale”

Matthew Durham says a new pay structure known as “step and scale” has merit, but if it were enacted by Oconee government it would fall short of satisfactory.  In the county council chairman’s latest newsletter, Durham said this about step and scale:  “If enacted as written, it would’ve resulted in $20k plus in raises for some department heads while many of the lowest paid and hardest working employees would have received little to nothing, neglecting fair compensation for the dedicated individuals who perform essential work on the ground.”  A number of 101.7/WGOG listeners have reacted with sympathy for a  convenience center worker who felt forced to quit to find a better paying job after being unable to support his family on a salary based at $12.12 an hour.
