West Union larger by 2.8 miles

The West Union police are now responsible for enforcing the law on both sides of the railroad track, over a distance of nearly three miles and about 100 feet on both sides of the track.  Mayor Linda Oliver says her town received notification from the Secretary of State’s office of the acceptance of the annexation.  She gives credit for the annexation to police sergeant Ben Hailey.  According to Oliver, there have been sightings of transients on railroad property.  She says Norfolk Southern welcomes the town’s police protection there.
