Walhallan accused in the January 6 investigation

A Walhalla man, Thomas Andrew Casselman, has been arrested as part of the government’s case into actions January 6, 2021 during the breach of the U-S Capitol—actions spelled out in court documents as having disrupted a joint session of the U-S Congress.  At the time, the congress met to ascertain and count the electoral votes from the presidential election.  A Department of Justice news release outlines felony charges against 29-year old Casselman in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia charging the defendant with “assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm on Capitol grounds or buildings, and disorderly and disruptive conduct in a Capitol building.”  The news release states that in court documents, “Police officers as well as open-source video footage show Casselman spraying law enforcement officers with an orange colored spray, presumed to be a chemical irritant, specifically, bear spray.”  The case is being prosecuted by the U-S Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section of the Justice Department.  The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Columbia, South Carolina Field Office and the FBI’s Washington Field Office.
