Walhalla re-thinks a 40% sewer increase

What Walhallans will pay to satisfy their water and sewer bills is headed upward. but not as high as earlier thought.  In their final vote, the city council last night decided the mid-year sewer increase will be limited to 20%, instead of 40%.  Councilman Keehn had pushed for 40%, as a way to get the city’s sewer expenses out of the red.  Still, the city leaders will brace for the possibility of a second, 20% increase in their treatment costs when the Joint Regional Sewer Authority enacts a new budget in four months.  Mayor Edwards explained from what he’s learned, the next increase to the JRSA municipal members might be as low as 10%.  The city council last night backed off 40% after Councilman Keith Pace said he wants the city to tie increases to JRSA increases which now are 20%.
