Vote results certified

The Oconee Board of Canvassers certified the results today of the November General Election, with no change in the outcomes reported on Tuesday night.  An examination of the write-in votes in the contest for Seat Two, State House of Representatives resulted in 1,121 of the write-ins for Perry Smith, who lost the race to Bill Sandifer, the incumbent.  Sandifer’s total of 10,840 votes gave him a winning percentage of 88.35%.  In the midterm elections, which many saw as red versus blue voters, 54.47% of Oconee’s electorate exercised their duty.  In Oconee, the total votes cast:  29,203.  Of that number, 82.66% voted straight party Republican; 16.12% straight party Democratic.
