Veteran state worker to lead voters’ office

On Thursday last week, the state senate confirmed Howard Knapp as the new chief of South Carolina elections.  Announcement from the state election commission credits Knapp with implementing election reform legislation that establishes no-excuse early voting, changed the absentee ballot process, changed crime penalties, among other significant modifications to voting statewide.  Previously, Knapp served as interim executive director and director of voter services.  He holds a J.D. from Ave Maria School of Law in Naples, Florida and a B.A. from The Citadel.
