Two Anderson County traffic fatalities are identified

The Anderson county coroner has identified two people who died in separate car accidents yesterday and Sunday in that county.  The latest death is that of Stacey Simmons.  The 60-year old female resident of Central died after a noon hour, one-car accident on the Liberty Highway near Pendleton.  Coroner Greg Shore said Simmons’ car apparently went off the highway and hit an embankment and required extrication from the car.  Shore yesterday also identified the victim of a Sunday afternoon fiery crash on the Danenhower Road near Pendleton as 22-year old Patrick Albert Hunkler of Pendleton.  Hunkler was a former Clemson student, who had finished his freshman year but had not yet returned.  The coroner said it was determined that Hunkler was on his way to work at the Walgreen Distribution Center in Anderson  when his car struck a second vehicle head-on and burst into flames after going down an embankment.
