Traffic “delineators” have arrived in Walhalla

Orange rubber-style sticks are in position at selected downtown Walhalla intersections—to address safety issues for pedestrians at traffic light crossovers.  Those traffic delineators as explained by Police Chief Tim Rice entice motor vehicle traffic from cutting a corner too closely so as to create a potential problem for a pedestrian getting ready for cross Main Street.  Rice says there remains confusion among some drivers as to whether it is all right to occupy the back-up lane, ahead of making a right-hand turn.  It is not all right, in fact, according to the police chief, a violation is subject to a citation.  Rice also reminds drivers that state law forbids vehicle parking within 30 feet of a stop sign, within 20 feet of a crosswalk, and 15 feet from a fire hydrant.  City of Walhalla hopes motorists will take it easy on Main Street downtown and keep alert for  shoppers on foot .
