Toppled transmission line created major power disruption

Electric power service has been restored at West-Oak High School and Fair-Oak Elementary, and classes take place there this morning at regular schedule.  The schools and a wide swath of Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative’s service area in southern Oconee lost service during yesterday evening’s storm.  Blue Ridge estimates around 10 thousand customers went without when a transmission line fell.  They are customers connected to the substations at Oakway, Townville, Fair Play, Golden Corner, and Port Bass.  Blue Ridge counted four broken transmission pole to replace.  By 10:30 last night, crews made what’s called “considerable progress.”  Cables were strung and necessary hardware and other fixtures were installed to make the system whole again.  All remaining outages are projected to have been resolved by daybreak today.
