T’ing up a tricky intersection

“This thing here, I hope it works”.  That was one of the expressions yesterday in Fair Play where the DOT trotted out drawings to show a fix for the intersection–SC 59, 182 and 243.  At times, motorists contort their necks to ensure no one is headed their way.  Of the estimated $2.5 million fix, sight improvements are a major component.  An engaged citizenry showed early for the two-hour public information meeting, and many too advantage of the chance to write down and submit their comments.  According to the DOT’s Alan Adams, the plan is to re-build three, T-intersections into two for sight and efficiency purposes.  The replacement T-intersections are to be regulated by stop signs though, at one point, the state had considered traffic lights.  In the first batch of feedback, Adams categorized it this way:  “We’ve had a little bit hot and cold, to be honest with you”.  But, overall, he said, it’s DOT’s hope the comment process will be positive and lead to “a very good project.”  It’s possible the selected contractor can finish the job in 2023.
