Thorsland recognizes “a shorter summer”

The mindset of Oconee’s school population and their parents may well remain in a kick-back summer mode.  However, at the county school district headquarters in Walhalla the mindset is that summer recess is fast ending, and the focus is preparing for a new academic year.  Dr. Thorsland, the district superintendent, drove home the point last night addressing the board of trustees when he announced that teachers are due back on the job Wednesday next week, to be followed by a first day of classes for students on Thursday, August 3.  Individual school faculties are not yet at full strength.  Thorsland announced that ten positions, including teachers and custodial staff, remain to be filled.
