Incumbency was an asset that stood candidates well throughout yesterday’s municipal elections in Oconee County.  In every instance, an incumbent held onto a seat.  Case in point:  Seneca, where the voters preferred status quo.  All four council incumbents were returned for new, four-year terms.  Walhalla provided the night’s drama, as the available mayor’s office went to Tim Hall.  He tallied 394 winning votes; opponent Sherri Campbell finished the night with 93 votes.  For an unexpired council seat, with two years to go, Kenny Johns won with 336; Abigail Keehn tallied 129.  The three, four-year council winners were Sarai Melendez, the incumbent; Josh Holliday and Josh Thomas.  101.7/WGOG NEWS received reaction from a Walhalla businessman who, after hearing who won, said, “That’s a good council.”  Municipal elections took place also in West Union, Salem, and Westminster.  But in each one of those none of the candidates faced ballot opposition.  The results accumulated last night at county election headquarters remain unofficial until action by the county board of canvassers.
