The quality of South Carolina drinking water

South Carolina’s health and sanitation watchdog, SC DHEC, says its newest account of how well the state’s drinking water meets safety standards produced the figure of “more than 99%” compliance by drinking water systems across the state with health-based standards.  According to DHEC, it means more than 99% of the state’s population served by public water systems received water that met or exceeded health-based standards.  Although the state health agency monitors quality and conducts routine inspections of facilities, it is ultimately the responsibility of water systems to maintain compliance with the standards.  Previous triennial review reports and additional info about drinking water, including where drinking water comes from and how it’s regulated, are available online at scdhec.gov/CapDev.
