The public schools get a “clean” audit opinion

An outside auditor, Don Estep, congratulated the Oconee School District last night for its latest year of financial numbers reflecting what the public schools took in and what they spent.  For the 2021-22 year, Auditor Estep gave the district an unmodified opinion and found no discrepancies in the district’s accounting.  A couple of factors combined to make for an anomaly—a deviation from normal.  Such as an unexpected $6 million increase in the district’s general fund.  Jay Schickling, the school district’s first-year director of fiscal affairs, explains the factors that led to increases in what the public schools received from local and state sources, in an interview airing today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.  Outside auditor Estep commended Schickling’s predecessor, Gloria Moore, for her help in the audit preparation.  Moore stayed beyond her July 1 retirement date.
