The “more aggressive” of the two

Administrators warned Oconee school trustees that, unless teacher pay is raised, the teacher shortage will only worsen.  Of two options, the trustees gave first reading  last night to a new spending request that’ll generate $55.6 million in local support.  The local support is dependent on the County Council which tonight will see the district’s preliminary budget numbers. The presentations last night by Dr. Thorsland, district superintendent, and Jay Schickling, finance director, stressed the district’s sinking pay scale as compared to those offered by nearby districts, all of which compete against each other to fill teacher positions.
