The field shrinks from 10 to 6

The deadline has passed, and Westminster is left with 10 candidates in the running to be the city’s next police chief.  Kevin Bronson, city administrator, announces that city council can expect to start interviews by their next regular meeting, March 19.  The upshot of some lengthy discussion at last night’s meeting is that while the city’s elected leaders will leave the hiring of rank-and-file officers to the chief, they want to hold onto to the authority to hire chiefs – instead of allowing the administrator to handle the chore.  In the meantime, a deliberative process is underway to vet the 10 applicants which Bronson says, includes following protocols as set forth by the state Criminal Justice Academy.
