The curious mind of a Clemson grad student

A recent Clemson Ph.D graduate, Rhett Rautsaw, created an app of distribution maps and niche models for all 158 pit viper species in North, Central and South America.  Pit vipers are venomous snakes, including rattlers, copperheads, and cottonmouths.  Venomous snakes are found on every continent except Antarctica.  The ones most injurious or death to humans are cobras, mambas, and their relatives.  Each year venomous snakebites cause nearly 100 thousand deaths and 400 thousand disablements.
