The best kind of problem for a public health intervention

Workers at the Clemson Rural Health clinic in Walhalla in six months’ time found more people interested in improving their health than the clinic staff could manage.  This was six months into a produce prescription program.  Brooke Brittain, registered dietitian, began VeggieRx through a partnership with FoodShare and Feed and Seed, a Greenville based food hub.  Patients at the Clemson Walhalla clinic with certain health markers are eligible for two free produce boxes each month.  The boxes come with local, in-season fruits and veggies, along with recipe cards relevant to what’s in the boxes.  A large portion of patients speak Spanish.  This requires bi-lingual providers or translators .
