Texting is new way to access South Carolina DSS

South Carolina DSS has partnered with the United Way on a new texting feature that connects families and individuals to resources of the Department of Social Services, through mobile devices.  DSS is now using the United Way’s 211 services, an automated texting platform, to meet users where they are and in need of help.  The service is made possible by support from Duke Energy to the United Way Association of South Carolina.  A mobile device user simply needs to text “DSS” to 211211 and a menu of options appears.  You’ll see info on foster care, adoption, child care, child support, adult advocacy, SNAP/TANF, and suspected abuse/neglect.  The service is also available in Spanish.
