Testimony bears out effectiveness of cops in the schools

Years have passed since Casey Bowling served as a school resource officer (SRO), but a relationship made with a student then would pay off later.  Deputy Solicitor Jason Alderman yesterday credited Casey Bowling, now the Seneca police chief, for a phone call that Hunter Lee Hunnicutt made the day after Hunnicutt and a co-defendant burglarized a Maple Avenue home, an incident in which the grandmother of triggerman Dakota Brown was shot and killed.  The information provided by Dakota Brown’s accomplice, Hunnicutt, was key to solving what happened, according to Alderman.  Protecting teachers and students, and others in schools aren’t only why SROs are effective.  At times, it’s a relation an SRO can build with a student that can help the student later in life.  In the case of the Bowling-Hunnicutt connection, Hunnicutt remembered Bowling and felt he could confide in him.
