Tempers flare in hostile setting

An angered prosecutor vowed she’ll seek a substitute to follow through with prosecuting Matthew Durham, according to case filings by the attorney representing the suspended Oconee County councilman.  The claims, submitted by defense attorney Keith Denny, show that assistant attorney general Megan Raymer made the declaration at the end of what appeared to be a hostile interview last week between Raymer and Durham’s wife, Rosalind Kate Durham.  An indictment alleges Mrs. Durham was a victim of domestic violence, an allegation that partly led to her husband’s suspension as a member of Oconee’s governing board.  According to the filings, Mrs. Durham made clear to the prosecutor that she and her husband have reconciled and she will not assist in the prosecution of her husband.  Furthermore, the filings suggest that there is intent to keep Durham away from his council seat because of the split on the council that in recent years has evidenced itself in 3-2 votes by its five members.
