Tax district pursuit underway in eastern Oconee

Important letters are being placed today in the U-S Mail, directed to the property owners inside the Corinth-Shiloh Fire and Rescue service area.  The objective is an explanation of the volunteer fire and rescue station to pursue a tax district that’ll allow the hiring of full-time personnel and fill the gaps created by a lack of volunteer personnel.  101.7/WGOG NEWS spoke with Kevin Christenbury, department chief, who explains a potentially lengthy process to solicit the signatures of property owners in favor of the tax district.  According to Christenbury, 15% will be the requirement.  Should that be achieved, the county council decides whether to direct the county elections office to schedule a referendum for voters in Corinth-Shiloh to cast either an up or down vote.
