Taking school spending comment Monday night

The weeks and months before the start July 1 of a new local government year are full of financial numbers.  It’s budget time for the many government bodies across Oconee.  And Monday night is a chance for Oconeeans to speak directly to administrators and county trustees on the level of spending projected for the 2023-24 school year that will start in August.  Comments and questions will be welcomed as part of the school board’s Monday evening work session to take place at 6 o’clock in the trustees’ conference room at the district offices on S. Pine Street, Walhalla.  The budget documents are shaping up to be the largest for school expenses in any one year:  approaching $122 million from all sources – local, state, and federal—as announced recently by Jay Schickling, district finance officer.
