Prescribed Burn in Oconee County

The Andrew Pickens Ranger District office in Mountain Rest, SC will be performing prescribed burning today, 2/6, at two locations; Long Nose off FS Road 752 and Rich Mtn. off FS Road 744.  Each burn area will cover approximately 15 acres.  Burn time is scheduled for 12 pm – 3:00 pm.  There will be visible smoke in the area.

Poultry farm fire

A major Oconee agriculture fire.  Chris Smith, county fire chief, says three-quarters of one of the poultry houses on the Welcome Church Road in the Holly Springs Community was destroyed yesterday morning.  An untold number of chickens perished.  The fire damages was confined just one of the buildings on the agricultural property.
