Summer meals for Oconee kids

School buildings are off-limits to students in summer.  But in Oconee, the public schools have an interest in ensuring that children receive proper nutrition.  The district announces that “Summer Meals for Oconee Kids” will start Wednesday, June 1 and continue through Friday,  July 29 at five locations.  Regardless of whether children are students or not, the meals will be served to any child under the age of 18, so long as he or she lives in the county.  Rules covering the feeding have been re-instated by the USDA and this summer’s meals will not be the once-a-week “grocery” style meals that students received last summer.  Children must be present to receive the meals and the meals are to be consumed during lunch time at the following locations:  Seneca Library, Walhalla Library, Salem Library, Westminster Library, and the Westminster Recreation Department.
