State test data results

Oconee public schools make this announcement:

“Recently, the South Carolina Department of Education released the results of the South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS), South Carolina College – and Career Ready Assessments (SC READY), and End of Course Examination Program (EOCEP) results from the 2021-2022 school year. Data for School District of Oconee County students shows progress toward reaching pre-pandemic results but also room to grow in many areas.  SDOC highlights include:

  • SDOC surpassed the state average on all EOC exams, with Biology results ranking in the top 10 districts in the state.
  • 8th grade math scores ranked third out of all SC districts.
  • Middle school students surpassed the state average in all areas (6-8th ELA, Math & Science)
  • ELA scores in all grades have surpassed pre-pandemic in all grades (3-8)
  • Of the 18 categories (Grades 3-8 ELA, Grades 3-8 Math, Grade 4 & 6 Science, EOCEP exams in Algebra, Biology, English II, and US History & Constitution), SDOC students improved in 16 of those 18 categories over the 2020-2021 school year.

Dr. Michael Thorsland, Superintendent, said, “Our board goal is to be a top ten school district in the state, and I’m excited that our Biology and 8th grade math students achieved that goal.  We are proud of the hard work of our students and teachers. While there was much improvement over 20-21 scores, we still have room to grow.  The data shows that Oconee scores tend to lag behind in early grades. After several years of strong instruction from our teachers, Oconee students’ results move well above state averages.”
