Spillway gates’ test tomorrow morning

Safety officials of the Savannah District, Army Corps of Engineers, test the spillway gates tomorrow morning at the Hartwell Dam.  The spectacle begins at 9 am and last about two hours.  The public may attend, but due to strong currents and heavy turbulence, all spectators must stay out of the water downstream.  Crowds are expected.  Notwithstanding the spectacular view, the actual effect on reservoir levels is minimal.  Currently, Lake Hartwell is above full summer levels.
