“Speedy trial” motion may be renewed in six month

Jail inmate Thomas Gerald Allred has been confined 297 days awaiting trial on multiple charges of sex offenses, but a backlog in processing electronic device evidence in the case further delays a trial date for Allred.  A state’s attorney yesterday opposed the defense lawyer’s motion for a speedy trial.  According to Judge Sprouse, it often takes time for the prosecution to sift through electronic evidence.  The judge ruled that if the prosecution and the defense can’t agree to a plea to resolve the charges, the defense may renew the speedy trial motion in 60 days.
