South Carolina’s will be a first-in-the-nation

With pride in her voice, Jody Gaulin says South Carolina’s Democratic presidential preference vote February 3 will be a first-in-the-nation — even before the traditional New Hampshire primary.  And in 2024 the Oconee Democrats chairwoman says the state’s Democratic ballot will offer three choices:  the incumbent president Joe Biden and challenger Marianne Williamson of California, considered a progressive.  A third person seeking to be the Democrats’ nominee, U-S Representative David Phillips of Minnesota, has raised questions about Biden’s age.  Gaulin predicts a lot of attention on South Carolina between now and February 3; locally, attention will be the arrival of a bus in Oconee County carrying state and national Democrats who’ll urge get-out-the-vote.  South Carolina Republicans are also likely to have a say on who makes their party’s presidential ballot when they vote in their state’s GOP preference primary three Saturday later on February 24.
