Six years in the making, utility improvements voted

Contractors from Greenville, South Carolina and Toccoa, Georgia have been assigned the job of new water lines and new fire hydrants — a Westminster project that has been in the talking and drawing stage for six years. “This is awesome.”  That’s the comment by the Westminster mayor, just after city council today approved the major upgrades in the water distribution system.  Making possible the work is an $8.7 million low interest loan from USDA Rural Development.  Kevin Bronson, city administrator, told the city council that the city’s payback will amount to annual payment of $400 thousand.  Once Arrowood General Contracting of Toccoa and Payne, McGinn and Cummins of Greenville go on the job they will have 330 calendar days to attain substantial completion and 360 calendar days to fully complete their work.
