Six months into the Nutrition Group

On this day dedicated to the warm feelings engendered by the heart of one to another comes the news that the first-year food provider for Oconee public schools has given the county trustees a report on the first six months of the arrangement.  And it has been an experience of learning and progress, according to an official of the Nutrition Group.  The Nutrition Group’s Lyle Kerrick addressed the board last night and stressed the emphasis of his company is to push fruits and vegetables in all grade levels and to increase the percentages of students who are eating breakfast and lunch in the school cafeterias.  Both Kerrick and Dr. Michael Thorsland, district superintendent, conceded that some mistakes have been made in this first year, but there’s a commitment to do better.  One thing that’s new is that the food provider has scheduled a food-tasting exercise in which Walhalla High students will get to sample offerings—and give their opinions.
