Sewer South Phase II job goes to Anderson contractor

Two outside sources of support are allowing Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority to meet a contractor’s bid to run sewer to I-85.  A vote of 7-0 yesterday by the JRSA board gives the project contract to Don Moorhead Construction of the Anderson County town of Belton.  Of two bids, Moorhead’s was the lowest but it was held over for a 30-day period to ensure JRSA could muster the required $12.3 million price tag.  The cost to pipe sewer from the Golden Corner Commerce Park on SC 59 through the village of Fair Play, at one point boring under 85 and the lake, ballooned from earlier estimates pre-COVID 19, as explained by a representative of the JRSA’s outside design firm Davis and Floyd.  Davis and Floyd’s John Reynolds gave yesterday’s meeting a long, chronological history of a project which had been talked about, Reynolds said, since 1980.  Brian Ramey of Westminster, board chairman, thanked Reynolds for imparting “a lot of good information.”
