Sewer South contractor bid date draws near

Throughout a four-mile stretch of Interstate-85 in Oconee County, officials are approaching a date shortly for which they hold great anticipation.  Contractors are being invited to submit bids to run the first piped sewer to the Oconee County side of the interstate.  For many years, county leaders have seen utilities as the carrot that’s going to attract the rabbit of economic development to create jobs, a healthier tax base at the county’s southern end, which has missed out on economic development that benefits the county’s most-populated areas, such as the Seneca area.  Anticipation aside, Oconee’s top sewer official, Chris Eleazer, admits worry that the bid offering might not attract many contractors – considering that they may have too much work already, as the economy tries to rebound from the workforce problems created by COVID-19.
