Seneca pupil overall contest winner
A Seneca third grader is the overall winner in this year’s Tornado Safety Contest, sponsored by the Oconee Emergency Services. The announcement that the poster by Audra McDonald of Northside Elementary was judged overall best and deserving of the grand prize was made to cap off this morning’s 39th tornado safety poster contest. This year, Oconee elementary students in grades 1-5 submitted 300 posters to be evaluated by a three-judge panel. The overall winner, the individual grade first and second winners, and those deserving of honorable mention were announced by Dr. Michael Thorsland, district superintendent. Each winner went home with certificates and weather radios, and there were cash prizes also.
