Seneca Council balks at ordinance 2023-02

Preliminary approval was granted last night by Seneca City Council to an ordinance to restrict and confine tattoo parlors to highway commercial zones, such as the 123 By-Pass.  The city’s elected leaders, however, tabled first reading of a second ordinance that would permit businesses such as pawnshops and consumer loans downtown, under certain conditions, including no like business within one thousand feet of another.  A comment by Councilwoman Rozman appeared to reflect the majority who believe certain kinds of businesses shouldn’t be allowed in the core commercial district, where the city is investing for economic revitalization.  For a time last night, council members were confused as to how their vote would reflect their true feelings.  That is, until they heard the city administrator and the city attorney advise them on their options.
