Second flow reduction in the basin

The three reservoirs on the upper Savannah River Basin have declared their second flow reduction in two months.  This, in response to the pool elevation at Lake Thurmond on Sunday dipping below Drought Trigger Level #2.  Water managers also adjusted Lake Hartwell releases to balance with Thurmond.  According to the U-S Army Corps of Engineers, reducing outflow decreases hydropower generated through the dams but conserves more water in the reservoirs.  The corps urges boaters to use extreme caution.  Rocks and tree stumps, normally deep underwater, will be closer to the surface — some just out of sight.  Whenever possible, boaters should use the main channel.  And remember to wear a life jacket whenever in, on, or near the water.
