Salem official makes appeal to the DOT

A meeting this morning in a conference room at Pine Street was all about better roads and streets.  Inclusive in that is safety.  And, after the breakup of the county’s State “C” Fund Committee meeting, Salem’s Marti Jennings made an appeal to the state DOT’s Randy Russell.  Jennings wants to see something done to slow down n. highway 11 traffic as it approaches and passes both the Loco mart and the Little River Road.  A serious accident involving large trucks occurred there last week and it’s fortunate the injuries weren’t more serious than believed.  Jennings pressed Russell for something, perhaps, a red light or a stop sign.  The DOT’s Russell acknowledged her concern and suggested that the matter go to the attention of State Senate President Thomas Alexander, the Walhalla Republican whose seniority many believe leads to things getting done.
