Remains were “skeletonized”

Skeletonized remains discovered yesterday morning near Seneca could be those of a murder victim.  And the coroner considers the remains of the male add up to a homicide.  Coroner Karl Addis’s announcement last night follows an earlier one issued by the office of the state Attorney’s General.  According to A-G Wilson’s announcement, Emmanuel Quarles, 27, was last seen leaving his Pendleton home on April 20, 2015. “Today” (April 19, 2023), according to the attorney general, “the person charged with his murder led members of the Attorney’s General Office and law enforcement officers to an area where suspected human bones were recovered.  The bones will be tested at SLED to confirm that they do in fact belong to Emmanuel Quarles.”  Quarles was last seen leaving with Kerry Cobb, 48-year-old Seneca resident.  Cobb’s truck was found abandoned in Pickens County after Cobb reported it stolen.  The blood of Quarles was found in Cobb’s truck.  Prosecutors had planned to start Cobb’s trial for murder next week, but after a three-day search the remains were found.  Among the agencies involved in the investigation:  the Clemson University department of Anthropology and Archeology.
