Regional sewer plant being explored

The idea of a new, regional sewer plant is  being explored that apparently could make both Oconee and Anderson counties partners in treating wastewater.  The possibility was addressed during separate executive sessions last night of the governing bodies in both counties.  “We decided that we’ll leave our door open and see how far along Anderson County came last night,” said Glenn Hart, the District Five Oconee County councilman.  The clerk to the Anderson County Council told 101.7/WGOG NEWS that after her council’s closed meeting, there county administrator was asked to gather more information, including the possibility of starting negotiations.  In Oconee’s case, the county has one large treatment plant at Seneca.  Of late, however, there has been talk that continuing development is approaching the point where the county could justify a second plant.  A regional one, with a neighboring county, would likely be less expensive than if each of the counties built a new plant on their own.  By building such a plant in the vicinity of Fair Play’s 243 state highway is seen as a way to lay pipe on both sides of Lake Hartwell without having to cross the water with pipe.
