Ready for debate SC House H.5118

Proponents of a bill in the state legislature believe H.5118 would enable South Carolina to meet the growing electric power demands of a growing state.  Seneca’s Bill Sandifer is one of some 50 co-sponsors, and he spoke to 101.7/WGOG NEWS about the importance of base load generation.  That, he says, is the “big ticket item” in the voluminous legislation.  And, for a better understanding, Sandifer recommends reading a letter, by Paul Basha of the York Electric Cooperative, published yesterday in The Journal.  Titled, “If SC were a car, we’d be running empty”.  Not everyone is on H.5118’s bandwagon.  A critic the recently resigned state Public Service commissioner, Tom Ervin, is worried about the possibility of higher utility rates to South Carolina home owners.
